The Tampa Rays sign Jeff Salazar
The Rays have signed 31-year old lefty swinging outfielder Jeff Salazar to a minor league deal. He played in 96 games in AAA-ball for the Rockies & Tigers last year and he was 64 for 281 (.228 avg, .729 OPS) with 58 runs scored, 9 homers, 39 RBIs and 23 stolen bases. Salazar last played in the majors back in 2009 for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Salazar has played in 168 games in his first four years in the majors and he is 69 for 298 (.232 avg, .684 OPS) with 44 runs scored, 4 homers, 31 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. Salazar will compete for a backup job in the outfield this spring for the Rays, but he’s going to be a longshot.
