The Tampa Bay Rays place Carl Crawford on the D.L.
Carl Crawford heard something pop in his hand when check swinging at a pitch last night. He has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with an injury to a right middle finger tendon. If this injury requires surgery it will likely end his season. Crawford has played in 107 games this season for the Rays and he is 121 for 443 (.273 avg, .719 OPS) with 69 runs scored, 8 homers, 57 RBIs and 25 stolen bases. The Rays will likely go with Gabe Gross and Rocco Baldelli in the left field. Gross has played in 83 games for the Rays this season and he is 41 for 177 (.232 avg, .764 OPS) with 19 runs scored, 9 homers and 26 RBIs. The Rays have activated Rocco Baldelli from the D.L. to replace Crawford on the active roster and he will likely get a lot of playing time in LF if he can stay healthy and that’s a very big if. The Rays will likely start looking around for a outfielder if Crawford’s injury is a serious one.
