The Tampa Bay Rays should try to make a move for C.C. Sabathia
I know that the Rays have been talking about going after Ken Griffey Jr., but what would really give the Rays the best shot at winning the American League East would be top add a top notch starting pitcher. With that in mind wouldn’t it be beautiful to have a playoff rotation that starts with Scott Kazmir, James Shields and C.C. Sabathia? The Rays have the players to get it done because the Indians’ farm system needs an influx of hitting. This here is a trade that would help both teams both now and in the future it would benefit the Indians. The Indians would trade C.C. Sabathia and righty reliever Rafael Betancourt (who is much better than he has pitched this season) and in return the Tribe would acquire outfielders Justin Ruggiano, Desmond Jennings, Ryan Royster, shortstop Reid Brignac and righty starting pitchers Edwin Jackson and Jeff Niemann. Getting Sabathia for the rotation would make the Rays a legit playoff time but losing Jennings would hurt them down the road. Still, isn’t it nice to think that the Rays might be adding instead of dumping at the trade deadline for the first time in team history?
Reid Brignac to the Indians is just plain stupid,A future all star most likly this would be a mistake as Sabathia is under .500 this season so far.Brignac is younger then Sabathia and has more years to play ball.
Brad, how can you project Brignac to be a future all-star? Anyway the Rays have Bartlett for now and Tim Beckham for the future. Sabathia is under .500 because the Indians can’t hit, not because he’s not a good pitcher. Sabathia won the Cy Young Award last season Brad. It’s time for the Rays to quit playing for the long term and try to make some noise in the playoffs and that would start by getting another starting pitcher to replace Edwin Jackson. I also like the idea of making a move for Erik Bedard but you have to give quality to get quality.
Look up what the Expos gave the Indians for Bartolo Colon and get back with me. As for trading for Bedard. He is a turd, a clubhouse killer.
I know what they gave up for Colon. But, the Expos really thought they were one player away from going deep in the playoffs and when you think you are you have to pull the trigger or go home. It was Cliff Lee, Grady Sizemore, Brandon Phillips and Lee Stevens for Colon.
