The Tampa Bay Rays sign lefty Brian Anderson
The Rays have signed 35-year old lefty starting pitcher Brian Anderson to a minor league contract. Anderson has been an announcer the last two seasons for the Cleveland Indians on T.V. as he has been recovering from Tommy John surgery. Anderson last pitched in 2005 with the Kansas City Royals. Anderson has pitched in 291 games (245 starts) in his major league career and he is 82-83 with 1 save, a 4.74 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP. This was a nice little signing from the Rays as Anderson will probably just get cut if he doesn’t look good in spring training. But if he’s healthy he could battle for the #5 spot in the rotation with Andy Sonnanstine.
