The D-Rays have signed outfielder Cliff Floyd to a 1-year, 2.75 million dollar contract with $2 million bucks in incentives. Floyd played well in a part time role last season for the Cubs. He played in 108 games for the Cubs last season and he was 80 for 282 (.284 avg, .795 OPS) with 40 runs scored, 9 homers and 45 RBIs. Floyd has now played in 1,531 games in his major league career and he is 1,411 for 5,057 (.279 avg, .843 OPS) with 792 runs scored, 222 homers, 826 RBIs and 147 stolen bases. As long as Floyd can stay healthy the D-Rays got a steal for the money they gave him because he can still swing the stick.

The Devil Rays finally got rid of Elijah Dukes as they have tired of babysitting for him. Dukes has the talent to dominate but the Rays couldn’t afford to have someone with his poor attitude both off and on the field on their team. Dukes played in 52 games for the Rays last season and he was 35 for 184 (.190 avg, .709 OPS) with 27 runs scored, 10 homers and 21 RBIs. The Rays acquired 20 year old lefty pitcher Glenn Gibson in return for Dukes. Gibson started 12 games in the minors last season and he was 4-3 with a 3.10 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP. He worked 58 innings and he allowed 47 hits, walked 15 batters and whiffed 58.
